What Is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy—often called “talk therapy”—is a collaborative process that helps you explore emotional challenges, uncover patterns, and develop healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and relating. It’s not just about discussing problems; it’s about creating real, sustainable change from the inside out.
Together, we’ll work at your pace, with your goals leading the way.
My Approach to Therapy
I believe therapy should feel safe, empowering, and deeply personal. I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches tailored to your unique needs:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps you identify and shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Supports emotional regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness
- Trauma-Informed Care: Prioritizes safety, trust, and understanding for those healing from trauma
- Relational & Insight-Oriented Therapy: Explores how past experiences shape current relationships and patterns
Our work may include emotional processing, skill-building, somatic awareness, or simply creating space to be heard—without judgment.
Who Is Psychotherapy For?
Psychotherapy is for anyone seeking clarity, healing, and personal growth. You might benefit from therapy if you’re:
- Feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, sadness, or stress
- Struggling with low self-esteem, shame, or self-doubt
- Having difficulty in relationships or communication
- Coping with a loss, major life change, or trauma
- Living with a mental health condition like depression, bipolar disorder, or PTSD
- Simply wanting to understand yourself better and live more fully
There’s no “right” reason to start therapy. If something in your life feels heavy, confusing, or stuck—therapy can help.
Therapy Isn’t Linear—And That’s Okay
Some weeks you’ll come in with something big to process. Other times, you may just need a space to breathe and reconnect. Progress looks different for everyone. What matters most is showing up—and having a therapist who shows up with you.
You’ll always be treated with respect, compassion, and care.
What to Expect in Sessions
Your first session is about getting to know each other—your goals, your story, and what you hope to gain. From there, we’ll set a pace that feels right for you. Sessions may include:
- Guided reflection and dialogue
- Learning coping tools and emotional regulation skills
- Addressing past wounds or trauma when you’re ready
- Exploring relationships, identity, and purpose
- Developing insight and self-compassion
You are never expected to share more than you’re ready for. Therapy is a space you get to shape, every step of the way.
Individual, Couples & Family Therapy
In addition to individual therapy, I also offer:
- Couples Therapy: Build stronger communication, heal from relational wounds, and reconnect with compassion.
- Family Therapy: Work through conflict, improve understanding, and support each other more effectively.
Each type of therapy is grounded in empathy and guided by your shared goals.
Therapy + Medication = Stronger Support
For some, combining therapy with medication can create the best foundation for healing. If appropriate, we can integrate both approaches into your care for holistic support.
